What is a Medicaid co-pay?

A Medicaid co-pay is the amount of money that a Medicaid applicant residing in a nursing facility is required to pay the nursing home each month for his or her care. The co-pay consists of all the applicant's income, less a small allowance and any health insurance premiums that may be due. The resulting figure is what the applicant must provide to the nursing home as payment every month.
